Olivier Rasir Artwork
Olivier Rasir was born in Belgium in 1973. He moved to Australia in 1995 where he started painting in 2004.
Rasir uses his materials with an insightful ability and having developed a distinctive technique of abstract painting produces a body of spontaneously responsive work.
Emotion is transformed into Rasir’s gesturally charged compositions which range from subtle, fluid harmonies through to refreshingly vibrant strengths. Rasir builds his canvases through multiple layering of colour and texture, which he gradually pares back to reveal a hidden velocity from within. He uses linear rhythms to reflect the urban mechanisms of Sydney life captured in full flight, whilst his softer paintings oscillate to an ethereal tenderness rarely seen.
At this early stage of his career Rasir demonstrates notable technical ability and intuition. While still developing his painterly vocabulary, the strength and content of these commanding canvases demonstrate the foundations of a solid career ahead.
Rasir has been collected by corporate and private collections in Sydney, Brisbane and Belgium and has provided a number of works for the Marriot hotel group.
My eyes walk shyly around you, trying to see you, you who could be you.
A line, a curve, a breathing building structure coming from emotions in motion; that makes me smile. I touch you, sometimes full of lively colours, sometimes just as pure as a white light imparting my soul sight.
The first time I make 10 steps of embarrassment towards you by engaging conversation, I leave but come back for more.
The dialogue always different according to the foundation we have created for each other.
I learn to listen, to listen to your heartbeat which, connected with mine, inspires my drive, my excitement of being alive.
And there you are, growing by the support of my hand, adapting and mixing yourself to the natural forces around, like a liberation born out of a name linked within me.
